The Newmarket Saints will officially open training camp Tuesday April 3rd at Magna Center. The Saints have be running since late February and will continue over the next two weeks as they prepare for their preseason tournament in Clarington on April 14th.
"We have had 45 players through our winter sessions and are expecting a few more over the next two weeks. Players are competing hard for roster spots and players really want to play here" commented Head Coach Luke Ringler. "This has been the best turnout we have had for local players".
With the regular season less than a month away, the Saints are prepping for hopefully another winning season. As many players graduated last season and three other players returned to their home center in Brampton opportunities to play this season are at a premium. This years roster will most likely be filled up with Jr C players from Innisfil, Newmarket's affiliate, and graduating midget and intermediate players from the Redbird minor system.
Newmarket has a busy month of April between exhibition games and the start of the regular season. They will travel to Clarington for a one day exhibition tournament against the Green Gaels, Orillia and Kahnawake. Newmarket then heads to Grimsby on April 18th to play Spartan in a rematch in which Spartan won last year 12-5. The regular season starts for the Saints on Thursday April 26th when they head north to Orillia to open their 2012 season. Newmarket will then host Mississauga on Saturday April 28th for their home opener.
